"Naked children as Art" Robyn Riley article

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/robynriley/index.php/heraldsun/comments/exploitation_not_art/

"After what has been allowed to happen in recent months in the name of art, a line needed to be drawn."

To those who waste their time and energy writing about this so called ‘issue’ in this manner: write instead perhaps about something we can honestly do something about which will make a positive difference in our community and HELP needy families. There are numerous issues we need to address to keep our children safe and well. This is not one of them. Nothing has ‘happened’ to our children here. It’s a whole lot of fuss and now tax payers money to produce this document. The government should be spending this money on something that actually contributes positively to the health and well being of our children.

I spent a day at a school in inner city Melbourne a few weeks ago where some primary aged children had to be fed by the teachers in the staff room because otherwise they would not eat all day due to the family’s circumstances. There was another school who actually has a breakfast program, which the school itself contributes goods too, who feed a number of children daily so they could learn. AND this is certainly not uncommon.
Reality check please.

A few weeks ago I heard “Bill Henson scouring local schools”.

very true! there are so many more crises affecting children today then rampaging artists, they need to focus on the issue at hand and stop making mountains out of molehills. working to deliberately panic people about nothing is so pointless when there is real stuff to panic about.

hi Amber. I remember the kind comment you left on the photo of my son, Pat, I posted up on my blog http://mattsutton.com.au/blog/?p=36
I have 7 children. I love children. I am a god-father 10 times also. I have done lots of research into Parental Alienation where parents harm their kids by turning them against the other parent. bottom line is that I agree with you here over the henson debacle. alot more harm is done "inside" the family to exploit our children than useless and expensive media bashups over art. I had a simple small exhibition in may this year and it was worth noting that many people off the streets asked "are there any nude children in your work?" art prejudice still runs strong in our world...
like your work here. well done
regards
matt
